How To Protect Your Home In Autumn

Some may debate when summer actually comes to an end, be it the meteorological definition of the end of August or the equinox, which this year falls on September 20th.

However, whatever the definitions and however much decent sunshine September brings, there is no doubt that the days are rapidly getting shorter. Indeed, once we are past the Equilux on the 25th the days will be shorter than the nights – and that means lots more opportunities for burglars to sneak around at night looking for breaches in home security they can exploit.

Moreover, it’s important to note that the nights will get even shorter in late October, when the clocks go back.

It’s not just Burglar alarms that Slough householders could benefit from fitting, however. There are many more things that they could add to their home security to add extra protection.

Since darkness is the friend of the thief, security lighting is the solution. This means it is harder for people to sneak around undetected and it also means if there is a mystery caller at your door you will be able to see them more easily if they are illuminated.

If you don’t have security cameras, now is a good time to consider them and if you do, it is important to check that they are in good condition and ready to withstand the rigours of the autumn and winter weather.

Cameras and lights might also be handy for another reason when the end of October comes. Assuming the state of the pandemic permits it, Halloween trick or treating may be back on. While it’s just fun to some, others can use this event as an excuse to get up to mischief on other people’s property, or even take the opportunity to scope out properties for a burglary.

You should also take the time to check your locks, garage doors and outdoor buildings such as the garden shed to keep them secure. By doing so, you will ensure those who want to exploit the dark soon decide to try their luck elsewhere.
